Citizen Awarded for Tackling Alleged Robber

On Thursday, January 28th 2010 the Waseca Police Department awarded John Hurlimann the Rising Star Award for his brave acts on December 25, 2009.

Mr. Hurlimann was visiting his mother at Maple Terrace on Christmas Day when he heard a scream from someone next door, asking for help.

Mr. Hurlimann rushed out into the hallway and saw the man pointing at another man running to the elevator. The victim said the man stole his money. Mr. Hurlimann chased after the man and tackled him, holding him until police arrived.

Mr. Hurlimann, who received injuries during the struggle to keep the offender in the building, said he did what anyone else would have done in the same situation. Unfortunately this is not always the case and the WPD thanks Mr. Hurlimann for his bravery that helped put an offender in custody.

Fingerprint Clinic
Waseca Police Department Fingerprint ClinicOn 04-17-09 Officer Berg and Thornhill attended the ECFE Fair that was held at the Waseca Jr. High. Waseca Police Officers along with staff from our local State Farm insurance agencies finger printed 75 children.  Along with fingerprinting, each parent was given a DNA swab along with instructions on how to use them and how to preserve the swab in case of an abduction, etc.

Officers utilized the Compu Kit that the department had purchased with donated funds. With this kit we are able to take a photo and prints and give these to parents within 2 minutes. This program has been a huge success and has been utilized many times.

Any questions about this program please contact the Waseca Police Department at 507-835-9720.
