Fingerprinting The Waseca Police Department has been conducting fingerprinting clinics for many years for our citizens. These clinics have been conducted at local retail establishments, the Early Childhood Fair, and at the Cally Jo Larson Children’s Charity fundraisers. Each year, hundreds of children are fingerprinted and the records are given to their parents for safekeeping. With the help of a grant and donations, the WPD purchased a “CompuKid” system. The new system allow the WPD to cleanly scan the child’s fingerprints, take a digital photograph of the child and add vital statistics to a digital file. The file can then instantly be printed on a credit card sized piece of plastic that can be kept in a parent/guardians wallet or purse. The parent/guardian will also be given a 3.5 inch floppy disk containing the data, which can be updated on a home computer. The project will impact several hundred children yearly, with the potential for several hundred more through projects conducted in the school system. It is imperative the parent/guardian put the documentation in a safe place. The WPD does not keep and/or store any of the children’s information. If you want to schedule a clinic or demonstration, please contact the program coordinator, Officer Larry Thornhill at 507-835-9720 or by email at larryt@ci.waseca.mn.us. |
